The Washington Post’s Valerie Strauss gave Marci Young of Pre-K Now a platform to prod the Obama administration and Congress to build funding for pre-kindergarten into any rewrite of the No Child Left Behind law.
Young, the director of Pre-K Now, an advocacy group that is part of the Pew Charitable Trusts, noted in a post for The Answer Sheet that the president’s new “blueprint,’‘ for re-writing the law “ignores the most rigorously evaluated and effective education reform of the last half-century: high quality pre-kindergarten.”
Young is among the early childhood advocates who want to see funding for states or districts that promote early education improvements be a more prominent part of reauthorization. Thirteen groups wrote a letter to the Committee on Education and Labor in the U.S. House of Representatives last week with some ideas, as noted in the Early Ed Watch blog.
